Introductory Call:

When you call our office, one of our cheerful team members will ask some preliminary questions to gain a basic understanding of your situation and set up an appointment with you to come to our office for a consultation. We also understand busy schedules, and we offer phone or Zoom consultations for clients on the move!

Before your initial visit, we will send you our questionnaire, which will include most of the essential information we will need to make our meeting productive and allow us to accurately assess your situation and address all your estate planning concerns.

Your Initial Visit:

Wills and Trusts: During this consultation, we will spend time assessing your estate needs, learning about your family (including your pets!), your assets, and educating you about various estate planning options to find the plan that is best suited to you and your unique family needs. We take time to explain the pros and cons of creating or not creating a Trust and try not to bore you with legal jargon!

Durable Powers Of Attorney and Health Care Directives:  Our staff feels strongly that these documents are imperative to any estate plan. A consultation for obtaining any power of attorney document will include guidance as to the use of these documents and careful designation of qualified agents.

Probate:  After the loss of a loved one, the thoughts of pouring through paperwork, and waiting for an appointment at the probate court can be daunting. During this visit, we will learn about the decedent and your family and assess any assets that will need to be inventoried as part of the probate process.  We will explain the general timeline and can direct you to be as hands-on with the process as you would like to be.

Special Needs Planning:  Our firm loves helping families with adults and children with special needs. We especially love to meet your loved ones with special needs if the occasion permits. During this initial visit, we will discuss your family goals and concerns for planning for your loved ones and can educate you on ways to help protect any legacy you would like to leave for their care while not interfering with any government benefits they might be receiving as a result of their disability.

Guardianship:  Our firm is well equipped to guide you through obtaining Guardianship for a loved one.  During this consultation, we will educate you on the Guardianship process, discuss the needed action steps, and assess whether Guardianship and/or Conservatorship is the best course of action for protecting your loved one.

Long-Term Care:  We understand and have compassion for those caring for an aging loved one and are here to help discuss your long-term care needs.  During your initial visit, we will determine what your long-term care needs might be, connect you with community resources when possible, and discuss techniques for asset protection while receiving Medicaid or paying for long-term care.

After Your Initial Visit:

  1. We will be upfront with any legal costs.   Our flat-fee billing system for estate planning ensures transparency with no surprises, encourages open communication between lawyer and client, and enables clients to manage expectations for the cost of their individualized plan.

  2. We will draft any documents for your estate plan, and email the rough drafts to you for your review, upon your request.   Once you receive your rough drafts, we love to answer any additional questions.  We are not one of those law firms that avoid or don’t return your call or email.  We pride ourselves on being available to our clients.

  3. Once you have approved your rough drafts, you will come to our office where you sign your documents and our professional staff is here to witness and notarize them for you.   We will also take the time to explain the documents you are signing and to answer any additional questions regarding your estate plan.   Our goal is to make sure you understand the valuable documents you are receiving.
